A junior doctor in the UK undertaking a training year attached to an accredited GP education programme which in the pre-Modernising Medical Careers (2006) system corresponded to the 4th year of training (after one year as a pre-registration house officer (PRHO) and 2+ years as a senior house officer (SHO)). Under the new (post-2006) system, the first two years are termed Foundation Year 1 (FY1) and FY2, which is followed by 3 years as a Specialty Registrar in General Practice.
