Peter the First Range
(in Russian Petra Pervogo Khre-bet), a mountain range in the Tadzhik SSR, between the Surkhob and Obikhingou rivers (basin of the Amu Darya). The range is 200 km long and has a maximum height of 6,785 m (Moscow Peak). The range is composed mainly of sandstones and conglomerates. In the eastern part there are many large glaciers (Sagran, Gando). On the lower slopes of the western part of the range there are maple forests and forests of nut-bearing trees. Higher up there are sparse stands of juniper, tall herbaceous vegetation, and subalpine and alpine meadows.
