Tartu Astrophysical Observatory

 

(full name, V. Struve Tartu Astrophysical Observatory), a scientific research institution of the Academy of Sciences of the Estonian SSR. It was founded in 1964 in Tóravere, 20 km southeast of Tartu. It is the successor of the Tartu Astronomical Observatory, founded in 1805. The Tartu Astrophysical Observatory conducts research in astrophysics, stellar astronomy, and the geodesy and physics of the earth’s atmosphere. Its main instrument is a 1.5-m reflector telescope. The observatory has issued Publikatsii since 1817.
