Trukhmens

(self-designation, Turkmens), a small ethnographic group of Turkmens living in Stavropol’ Krai, where their ancestors migrated in the late 17th and early 18th centuries from the Mangyshlak Peninsula after separating from the Chaudor, Ig-dyr, and Soiunadji Turkmen tribes. The Trukhmens live in several settlements to the northeast of the city of Stavropol’. The Trukhmen language is a Turkmen dialect whose vocabulary and grammar have been influenced by the Nogai language. The chief occupations of the Trukhmens are stock raising and farming.
