Surami Range

(also Likheti Range, Meskheti Range), a mountain range in the Georgian SSR. The Surami Range connects the Greater Caucasus and the Lesser Caucasus and separates the Colchis Lowland from the Kura Depression. The range rises to a maximum elevation of 1,926 m. It is composed of granites, schists, and tufagenous ores. Broad-leaved forests predominate on the slopes. The lowest pass is the Surami Pass (949 m), through which the Zestafoni-Khashuri Highway runs. A railroad tunnel runs through part of the pass.
