Saint-Aubin, Gabriel de

 

Born Apr. 14, 1724, in Paris; died there Feb. 14, 1780. French graphic artist and engraver.

Saint-Aubin studied with J.-B. Sarrazin. He depicted scenes from the life of various strata of Parisian society, devoting much attention to the worlds of art, the theater, and science. His works included pencil, pen, and sanguine drawings, water-colors, and gouaches, often in various combinations. These works, like his etchings, were marked by vividness, keen observation, and skill and ease of execution. He was also a painter.
