Soiana
a river in Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR; a left tributary of the Kuloi River of the basin of the Mezen’ Inlet. It is 140 km long and drains an area of 5,860 sq km. The river originates in and flows within the White Sea-Kuloi Plateau. It is fed mainly by snow. The mean flow rate 42 km from the mouth is 50 cu m per sec. The Soiana freezes between late September and November, and the ice breaks up in May. The river is used for timber flotation. There is a fish-packing plant near the mouth.
