[‚ant′ärd·ik in·tər′mēd·ē·ət ′wȯd·ər] (oceanography) A water mass in the Southern Hemisphere, formed at the surface near the Antarctic Convergence between 45° and 55°S; it can be traced in the North Atlantic to about 25°N.
