Donzhashvili, Tina Georgievna
Born Sept. 8 (21), 1916, in Tbilisi. Soviet Georgian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1949.
Donzhashvili graduated from the First Moscow Medical Institute and the S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy in Leningrad. She participated in the Great Patriotic War (1941-45) and the war with Japan (1945). War experiences are at the heart of the novella / Shall Not Forsake You (1947). The novel Dawn (1950; Russian translation, 1951, under the title Glory) deals with the friendship of Soviet peoples. The postwar life of the Georgian countryside is described in the novel On the Alazani River (1956; Russian translation, 1968). Donzhashvili’s plays The Smiles of Victors, Radiant Path,and Field Tale were produced on the Georgian stage. Donzhashvili also publishes essays. She has received five orders and various medals.
