Ramiev, Sagit

Born Feb. 12 (24), 1880, in the village of Ak-man, Orenburg Province; died Mar. 16, 1926, in Ufa. Tatar poet.

Ramiev studied in Orenburg in the Khusainia madrasa and in a Russian school. In 1906 he moved to Kazan. He began publishing in 1906.

Ramiev, the author of popular romantic lyric verses, introduced the lively intonations of colloquial speech into Tatar poetry. Beginning in the 1910’s, individualistic themes permeated his poetry. Ramiev translated works by L. N. Tolstoy and N. A. Nekrasov into the Tatar language.
