Timoshenko, Stepan Prokofyevich

Timoshenko, Stepan (Stephan) Prokofyevich

(1878–1972) civil engineer, educator; born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He worked as a railway engineer, then in 1906 lectured at Kiev University. He fled the Soviet Union, emigrating to the U.S.A. in 1922. He taught structural engineering at Stanford (1936–54) and contributed to theoretical and applied mechanics.
