Timok

 

a river in Yugoslavia; a right tributary of the Danube. For a distance of 15 km in its lower course, the Timok forms the border between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria. The river measures 189 km in length and drains an area of 4,666 sq km. It originates at two sources in the western spurs of the Stara Planina Mountains and flows primarily through mountainous and hilly country and along a plain. The mean flow rate is approximately 40 cu m per sec. High water is in spring. The river is used for irrigation. The cities of Knjaževac and Zaječar in Yugoslavia are situated on the Timok.
