Refrigerator Unit
Refrigerator Unit
a means of transport equipped with a refrigeration installation, used in shipping artificially cooled food products. There are three types of refrigerator units used in motor vehicle transport: refrigerator trucks, trailers, and semitrailers with insulated bodies. The outer and inner panels are made of Duralumin or galvanized steel sheet. Foam plastic or aluminum foil with air interlayers is used as insulating material. The compression refrigerating machines in such units are driven by self-contained carburetor-type internal-combustion engines. The range of temperature regulation varies from +9° to – 18°C. Truck refrigerator units hold up to 2.5 tons, and semitrailers hold up to 5 tons. In rail transportation, refrigerator cars that make up refrigerator trains are used as refrigerator units; and, in maritime transport, refrigerator ships containing refrigeration equipment are used as refrigerator units.
