Trubetskoi, Aleksei Nikitich
Date of birth unknown; died 1680. Russian political and military figure, diplomat, prominent landowner, prince, and boyar (1645).
From 1646 to 1662, Trubetskoi headed various prikazy (administrative departments), including the Sibirskii Prikaz (Siberian Prikaz) and the Prikaz Kazanskogo Dvortsa (central administration of the Kazan and Astrakhan Khanates). In March 1654 he took part in the negotiations with Hetmán B. Khmel’nitskii concerning the incorporation of the Ukraine into the Russian state. He commanded troops in the Russo-Polish War of 1654–67 and at the capture of Iur’ev in 1656 during the Russo-Swedish War of 1656–58. Trubetskoi took part in suppression of the Moscow Uprising of 1662 and in subsequent interrogation of the rebels.
