refraction shooting refraction shooting[ri′frak·shən ‚shüd·iŋ] (engineering) A type of seismic shooting based on the measurement of seismic energy as a function of time after the shot and of distance from the shot, by determining the arrival times of seismic waves which have traveled nearly parallel to the bedding in high-velocity layers, in order to map the depth of such layers. |
