soft font

[′sȯft ′fänt] (computer science) A typeface or set of typefaces that is contained in the software of a computer system and is transmitted to the printer before printing. Also known as downloadable font.

soft font

A set of characters for a particular typeface that is stored on the computer's hard disk, or in some cases the printer's hard disk, and downloaded to the printer before printing. Contrast with internal font and font cartridge.
