(religion, spiritualism, and occult)

Glenn Perry is a contemporary astrologer who started working professionally in 1974. After a brief stint giving traditional “readings,” he felt that he was not sufficiently trained as a counselor to provide the kind of help that many of his clients needed. So in 1975 he began graduate work in psychology at Lone Mountain College in San Francisco. During the next five years, he studied under Richard Idemon, who was well known for his integration of astrology and Jungian psychology.

Perry graduated from Lone Mountain College with a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy in 1978. His thesis was titled Inside Astrology: A Psychological Perspective, a substantial portion of which was devoted to correlating Jungian/humanistic ideas and astrology. After some years as a teacher and therapist, he went back to school in 1981 at Saybrook Institute in San Francisco and graduated with a Ph.D. in psychology in 1991.

In addition to private practice, Perry lectures and conducts workshops throughout the world on the application of astrology to the fields of counseling and psychotherapy. He was featured on the A&E television program The Unexplained as a spokesperson for the application of astrology in the mental health professions. Perry has written four books, including Essays in Psychological Astrology, and has been an adjunct professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco where he taught astrology to graduate students in psychology. Additionally, he has been employed as a clinical evaluator at Antioch College, Union College, and Goddard College for students integrating astrology into their course work.

In 1987, Perry founded the Association for Astrological Psychology (AAP), a professional organization for astrologers, psychologists, and counselors who are interested in using astrology as a diagnostic tool in therapeutic work with clients. In addition to serving as president of AAP and editing its official publication, The Journal of AstroPsychology, Perry served as vice president of the International Society of Astrological Research (ISAR) and has been a board member of the United Astrology Conference (UAC).
