peroxy-pref. Containing the bivalent group O2: peroxyacetyl nitrate.
[per- + oxy-.]peroxy- or esp for inorganic compounds peroxo-combining form (Elements & Compounds) indicating the presence of the peroxide group, -O–O-: peroxysulphuric acid. Also (not in technical usage): per- peroxy- a combining form used in the names of chemical compounds in which the bivalent group –O2– is present.
