Reed Board

Reed Board

an insulating material of panels pressed from reed stalks and fastened together with galvanized steel wire.

The reed board used in the USSR is 2, 400-2, 800 mm long, 500-1, 150 mm wide, and 50-100 mm thick. The volumetricweight is 175-400 kg per cu m; the limit of strength when flexedis 18-50 meganewtons per sq m; the coefficient of thermal con-ductivity is 0.04-0.07 watts per (m • degrees Kelvin); and themoisture content does not exceed 18 percent. Reed board is usedprimarily in farm construction for insulating enclosures andfilling the framework walls of low housing and production build-ings.
