state-enrolled nurse state-enrolled nurse A lower-tier UK nursing qualification which was retired in the mid 1990s. SENs undertook the same 12-month training as state-registered (level-one) nurses, and took another 12 months of training before sitting the SEN exams and becoming registered. Some auxiliary nurses with many years of experience were allowed to sit the SEN exams and enter the SEN register—i.e., they were “grandfathered”. |
