Sabaneev, Aleksandr Pavlovich
Born Oct. 24 (Nov. 5), 1843, in Yaroslavl; died 1923, in Moscow. Russian chemist.
Sabaneev graduated from Moscow University in 1866 and began working at the University in 1871; he served as a professor there from 1884 to 1914.
Sabaneev’s main work was devoted to the study of acetylene derivatives and of the action of zinc and zinc powder on alkyl halides, to establishing the isomerism of some inorganic compounds (for example, derivatives of hydrazine and hydroxyla-mine), and to the use of the cryoscopic method to determine the molecular weight of a number of colloids.
