Red Tambov Cattle

 

a breed of dairy and beef cattle. It was developed in the Tambov and Voronezh oblasts of the RSFSR by crossing of local cattle with Pashkov cattle and then with Tirolean and Simmental breeds. The breed was registered in 1948. Red Tambov cattle are strong and have good body conformation. They are varying shades of red; some cattle of this breed have white markings on the abdomen and lower chest. The bulls weigh 900–1,000 kg; the cows, about 500 kg. The milk yield of cows registered in the state pedigree book is 4,500 kg per year. The highest yields are up to 7,800 kg. The fat content of the milk is 3.8-3.9 percent. The meat quality is good. The dressed yield is 54–56 percent. In order to create unrelated lines in the breed, introductory crossing is conducted with the Red Gorbatka breed and the Red Danish breed. Red Tambov cattle are raised in Tambov Oblast.
