Redstone, Sumner (Murray)

(1923– ) entertainment executive; born in Boston, Mass. He was a government and private lawyer who through his investments in the entertainment industry came to control an empire of movie houses and television production and distribution companies. As president, CEO, and chairman of National Amusements (1967) and chairman of Viacom International, he pioneered multiplex cinemas and owned the MTV, Showtime, and Nickelodeon television channels.
