Veterinary Service

the aggregate of veterinary organizations and institutions carrying out all veterinary measures in the country, separate territorial zones, separate branches of the national economy, enterprises, and transportation, at state boundaries, and in the armed forces. Administratively, veterinary services are subordinate to the Union (republic, oblast, krai, or raion) body or ministry (department or enterprise) in whose system they belong. Specifically, veterinary services are subordinate to superior veterinary bodies. In the USSR the Ministry of Agriculture directs veterinary services.
