[TA] a branch of the vagus nerve at the inferior ganglion; at the thyroid cartilage it divides into two branches: the internal laryngeal nerve, a sensory branch that supplies the mucous membrane of the larynx superior to the vocal folds, and the external laryngeal nerve, a motor branch that supplies the inferior pharyngeal constrictor and the cricothyroid muscle.
