Severouralsk

a city (until 1944 a settlement) under oblast jurisdiction in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR; situated on the eastern slopes of the Urals on the Vagran River, in the basin of the Ob’ River. Population, 31,000 (1974). Severoural’sk is the terminus of a railroad branch line from Serov. It is a center for the mining of bauxites (see), which are used at aluminum plants in the Urals. Iron ore is mined and timber is cut and processed in the vicinity of Severoural’sk.
