seven-year rule

seven-year rule

The old Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice rule which required completion of GP training within 7 years in order for a doctor to be awarded a CCT (previously a certificate of prescribed experience).
Trainees who completed their training in an approved programme and/or posts will be eligible for a CCT even if they take longer than 7 years to complete the programme, providing they demonstrated that they had met the curriculum requirements through the relevant assessments for GP training. There is a small number of trainees where summative assessment forms part of their programme. The 7-year rule still applies for them.
