Established: 1992.
Location:Northwestern Minnesota, about 60 miles east of East Grand Forks.
Facilities:Visitor center, viewing sites, trails.
Activities:Hunting, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, educational programs.
Special Features:More than 170 wood duck boxes and 150 bluebird boxes have been erected and are actively maintained in order to provide habitat for cavity nesting birds.
Habitats: 2,120 acres of maple/basswood/oak forest, wetlands, tallgrass prairie and bogs; at least 19 old farmsteads make up the refuge lands, and five partial log buildings remain.
Wild life: Several ducks species, neotropical migratory birds, cormorants, ruffed grouse, red-eyed vireo, cedar waxwing, white-tailed deer, black bear, barred owl, otters, beavers, and foxes.
