Starostin
the name of a family of brothers who, as Soviet athletes and public figures, were involved in the founding of the all-Union sports society Spartak and in the rise and development of soccer in the USSR; repeatedly named champions of the USSR.
Aleksandr Petrovich Starostin. Born Aug. 9 (22), 1903, in the village of Pogost, in what is now Yaroslavl Oblast. Honored Master of Sport (1936). Member of the CPSU since 1939.
Starostin was captain of the national soccer team of the USSR in the 1930’s and chairman and deputy chairman of the Soccer Federation of the RSFSR during the 1950’s through the 1970’s. The author of the book A Captain’s Story (1935), he was twice awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
Andrei Petrovich Starostin. Born Oct. 11 (24), 1906, in Moscow. Honored Master of Sport (1940). Member of the CPSU since 1930.
Starostin played on the national team of the USSR in the 1930’s and has been deputy chairman of the Soccer Federation of the USSR since 1959. Author of the books Top-level Soccer (1957) and A Tale of Soccer (1973), he has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
Nikolai Petrovich Starostin. Born Feb. 13 (26), 1902, in Moscow. Honored Master of Sport (1934). Member of the CPSU since 1941.
Starostin played on the national team of the USSR in the 1920’s and 1930’s and was captain of the Moscow Spartak soccer team from 1955 to 1975. Author of the The Stars of Top-level Soccer (1967), he has been awarded the Order of Lenin.
Petr Petrovich Starostin. Born Aug. 16 (29), 1909, in the village of Pogost, in what is now Yaroslavl Oblast. Engineer. Member of the CPSU since 1956.
Starostin played on the Moscow Spartak team in the 1930’s. He has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
