Tanglha

(also Tangkula or Thanglha), a mountain range in China, in the central part of the Tibetan Highlands. The Tanglha Mountains, which rise about 1,000 m above the surrounding plains, have a length of about 700 km and a maximum elevation of 6,096 m, at Basudan Ula. They consist of several mountain massifs, composed mainly of limestones and argillaceous schists; they have gentle contours and numerous rock streams, as well as snowfields and glaciers. The landscape consists of mountain deserts and steppes. The range is crossed by the Sikang-Tibet highway, which runs through Tangk Pass (elevation, 5,180 m).
