[‚per·ə·lə′täk] (geology) A frozen layer of ground, at the base of the active layer, which may persist for one or several years. Also known as intergelisol.

Pereletok

 

(1) A lens of frozen rock in the active layer of permafrost rocks that in some years remains unthawed through the warm period until the beginning of the next seasonal freezing.

(2) An accumulation of snow that lasts through the summer on shaded slopes or in depressions.
