percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty

A treatment for narrowing of the artery supplying the kidney with blood (the renal artery) of such a degree that the function of the kidney is prejudiced. The widening of the artery is achieved by means of a balloon catheter similar in design to those used in the coronary artery. Recoil narrowing can be prevented by means of a STENT.
