Baratbekov, Iuldashbek

 

Born May 1890 in Ura-Tiube; died there, May 14, 1967. Soviet master of artistic wood carving and painting on wood; People’s Artist of the Tadzhik SSR (1960).

Baratbekov was self-taught. Using the traditions of Tadzhik folk art, he introduced Soviet emblems into ornamental carving and painting. Baratbekov’s best work is the doors of the Tadzhik SSR Pavilion at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition in Moscow (1939). Baratbekov was awarded the Order of Lenin and two other orders, as well as medals.
