Tanalyk

 

a river in the Bashkir ASSR with its lower reaches in Orenburg Oblast, RSFSR; a right tributary of the Ural River. The Tanalyk is 225 km long and drains an area of 4,160 sq km. It rises in the Irendyk mountain range of the Southern Urals and empties into the Iriklinskii Reservoir. It is fed primarily by snow. The mean flow rate 59 km from the mouth is 2.96 cu m per sec. The river dries up for periods lasting from eight days to ten months. It freezes in the second half of October or November and opens up in April. The city of Baimak is on the Tanalyk.
