a city in western Morocco; capital of Settat Province. Population, 42,300 (1971). A railroad and highway junction, Settat is the trade, craft, and industrial center of the Chao-uia, an agricultural region where cattle are raised and grains are grown. Industries include food processing, woodworking, and metalworking. Settat was founded in the first century B.C.
