Procheiron
Procheiron
a codification of certain fundamental statutes of Byzantine civil, criminal, and partly judicial and church law that was carried out in 879 upon the orders of the emperor Basil I. The Procheiron was not an official code of laws but rather a compulsory guide for judges. Based on the Codification of Justinian, it influenced later Byzantine law, including the Basilica. The Procheiron and Epanagoge are two sources of Orthodox church law.
