recruitment agency

a private organization that operates to find suitable people to fill the JOB requirement needs of a firm or some other organization. Some persons may be contracted by the recruitment agency itself (e.g. secretaries, supply teachers) whose services are then offered to firms needing people to cover (usually) short-term staffing requirements (often to cover for illness or temporary leave of existing staff). Most of an agency's work, however, is concerned with recruiting people to permanent positions by providing specialized skills in ‘finding the right person for the job’, particularly for managerial positions. The term ‘headhunting’ is often used in this respect. See also JOB CENTRE.
