Uzbek Museum of The Arts

(full name, Museum of the Arts of the Uzbek SSR in Tashkent), the largest art museum of Uzbekistan. The museum, founded in 1918, originally contained works from a nationalized private collection. The holdings of the museum have increased since the 1920’s and now constitute the richest national collection of Uzbek art. The museum includes works of folk art, for example, ornamental textiles, embroidery, stamped articles, and carved wood, ganch, and stone, as well as paintings, sculpture, and works of graphic art.

Soviet Uzbek painting is represented by the works of P. P. Ben’kov, A. N. Volkov, and U. Tansykbaev. The museum also has valuable collections of Russian art, for example, paintings by V. V. Vereshchagin and I. E. Repin, and examples of the art of Western Europe and China. [26–1542-1 ]
