tile-based interfaceA user interface that places icons in rows and columns with no space in between, exemplified by Windows Phone and Windows 8 Metro. Although iPhones and Androids display rows of icons, the icons have too much space around them to be called tiles. See tile, Windows 8 and Windows phone.
