A hypothetical substrate which increases cardiovascular mortality in type-A individuals, who are typically angry, cynical, distrustful and repress marked hostility towards others. Clinical data suggest that long-term cardiovascular mortality is up to seven-fold greater in subjects with a “toxic core” personality.
