Russell 3000 Russell 3000A market capitalization-weighted benchmark index made up of the 3000 largest US stocks, which represent about 98% of the US equity market.Russell 3000 IndexAn index, weighted for market capitalization, of the 3,000 largest publicly-traded companies in the United States. While not as famous as the Dow Jones Industrial Average or the S&P 500, some analysts believe that the Russell 3000 Index accomplishes much the same thing: providing a snapshot of how well the U.S. economy is performing by gauging demand for shares in its largest publicly-traded companies.
