Vitosha
Vitosha
a dome-shaped mountain massif in Bulgaria to which the suburbs of the city of Sofia extend. It has an elevation of 2,290 m (Mount Cherni-Vrakh). The Struma River originates in the Vitosha Mountains. With predominantly steep slopes, the massif is composed of crystalline rocks. Building stone (Vitosha syenite) is quarried here. There are broad-leaved deciduous, mixed, and coniferous forests as well as mountain meadows. Mineral springs are found in the foothills. The Vitosha is a national park and preserve with tourist facilities, rest homes, and a funicular.
