Press, Tamara Natanovna

 

Born May 10, 1937, in Kharkov. Soviet athlete. Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1960). Member of the CPSU since 1962.

Press graduated from the Leningrad Construction Engineering Institute in 1962 and from the Higher Party School of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1967. She received the degree of candidate of pedagogical sciences in 1974.

Press was the women’s champion in shot put at the Olympic games of 1960 and 1964 and women’s champion in discus-throwing at the 1964 games. She was the women’s champion of Europe three times in 1958 and 1962 and the women’s champion of the USSR 16 times between 1958 and 1966. Since 1967 she has been working for the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions.

Press has been awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Badge of Honor.
