Tigranakert
Tigranakert
(also Tigranocerta), an ancient Armenian city. Tigranakert, one of the capitals of Tigranes II, was founded in 77 B.C. southwest of Lake Van, near the present-day city of Silvan (Miyafarkin), Turkey. The city was surrounded by fortified walls 25 m high and possessed many structures influenced by Hellenism. In 69 B.C. it was destroyed by the Romans.
