[′sən‚shīn ri‚kȯrd·ər] (engineering) An instrument designed to record the duration of sunshine without regard to intensity at a given location; sunshine recorders may be classified in two groups according to the method by which the time scale is obtained: in one group the time scale is obtained from the motion of the sun in the manner of a sun dial, in the second group the time scale is supplied by a chronograph.
