Size: 3,040 acres.
Established: Proclaimed on May 26, 1930; transferred from Forest Service on August 10, 1933.
Location:From Flagstaff, Arizona, take US 89 north 12 miles, then right on Sunset Crater - Wupatki Loop Rd. for 2 miles to park visitor center.
Facilities:Campground (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Camping, hiking, interpretive programs.
Special Features:This volcanic cinder cone with summit crater was formed by a series of eruptions sometime between AD 1040 and 1100. Its upper part is colored as if by a sunset.
