Town, Ithiel

(1784–1844)American architect who worked in New Haven, CT, and New York; and associated with Alexander J. Davies. Early leader in Greek and Gothic Revival styles and bridge engineering. Designed Trinity Church (1816), NYC; the Connecticut State House (1831), New Haven, CT; City Hall and Market House (1829), Hartford, CT; Indiana State Capitol (1835), with Davies, Indianapolis, IN; and the North Carolina State Capitol, with Davies, at Raleigh, NC.
