standing-wave detector

[′stand·iŋ ¦wāv di′tek·tər] (electromagnetism) An electric indicating instrument used for detecting a standing electromagnetic wave along a transmission line or in a waveguide and measuring the resulting standing-wave ratio; it can also be used to measure the wavelength, and hence the frequency, of the wave. Also known as standing-wave indicator; standing-wave meter; standing-wave-ratio meter.
