Standard Weight of Agricultural Products
Standard Weight of Agricultural Products
the weight of agricultural products procured by the state relative to standards of quality (the so-called base requirements). Produce of varying quality is brought to collection centers, but state purchasing plans are based on a certain average quality. Therefore, purchases of many agricultural products take into account both the physical (actual) and standard weights. Settlements with kolkhozes and sovkhozes for their produce are based on standard weights.
In converting from actual to standard weight, the weight of low-quality produce is reduced while the weight of high-quality produce is increased. For grain, for example, 1 percent deductions and increases have been established for each percent of deviation from the base requirements in terms of moisture and weed content. If a kolkhoz delivers to a collection center 300 centners of wheat with a moisture content of 16 percent and a weed content of 3 percent, with the base requirements 14 percent and 1 percent respectively, then the total deviation from the base requirements is (16 − 14) + (3 − 1) = 4 percent. The discount from the weight is = 12 centners, and the standard weight of agricultural produce is 300 − 12 = 288 centners. The standard weight of milk is determined by converting from actual weight to a weight based on the standard fat content, and the standard weight of wool is calculated on the basis of the standards of yield of pure fiber from natural unwashed wool.
