Art Foundation of the USSR

 

a public organization affiliated with the Artists Union of the USSR. The purpose of the Art Foundation of the USSR is to support the artistic work of member artists and improve their material and living conditions. The foundation was established in accordance with a resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR of Feb. 4, 1940. The final statute was confirmed in 1957.

The Art Foundation of the USSR is headed by an administrative board. The foundation owns various enterprises, including plants, factories, combines, studios, galleries, and houses of creation. These enterprises fill orders from state and cooperative organizations and institutions for the creation of works of art, the organization of exhibitions, and the ornamentation of public buildings. Republic-level artists’ unions also have divisions of the foundation.
